Geoffrey Bork

Higher-Ed Data Architect · ERP & Reporting Specialist

I have spent a decade turning a community college's sprawling institutional data into reliable, automated intelligence, from federal compliance reports to department-level dashboards, while also managing the enterprise systems that keep the institution running. I came to this work through nine years of leading a 25-person technical support operation, which means I bring both the engineering instinct and the organizational fluency that most data roles ask you to pick one of. What makes me unusual is the combination: I can write the Oracle SQL query, explain it to a Dean, and document it for the person who comes next.

HOW I THINK
Clean data is only half the job, if the person making the decision can't trust it or read it, it might as well not exist. I build reporting and automation with the end user in mind first, and I don't consider something finished until it's documented well enough that someone else can own it.

BEYOND THE RESUME

Volunteer & other

Taught Myself Python to Bury a 40-Year-Old COBOL Codebase
When I took on the data administrator role, I inherited reports written in COBOL that nobody fully understood anymore, they just ran and people trusted them. I learned Python well enough to reverse-engineer, replicate, and then automate those processes in a stack that could actually be read, maintained, and improved. There's something satisfying about taking something that worked through institutional inertia and replacing it with something that works on purpose.
Career Built Across Three Generations of the Same ISP
I spent nine years at what was Essex Telcom, then T6, then Rise Broadband, the same company through three rebrands and ownership changes, growing from technician work into leading a 25-person department. Staying through that kind of institutional turbulence teaches you things about loyalty, adaptability, and keeping a team grounded that you can't learn any other way. It's also where I developed the instinct that people and process matter more than the org chart.
